Hi guys, my husband and I have a piece of property in Glover that we bought several years ago. We have no house on it, it's just the land. I am originally from the Essex Junction area (1970's to mid 80's) and got pulled to Northern Virginia with my family when I was young. The economy was bad and my dad needed work.

At any rate - I've always wanted to come back. It's taken years of coming back up and realizing that it will essentially be a completely different way of life. But, living here in VA....though we have all the conveniences - life is not necessarily as convenient as one may think.

So...it has been a little difficult trying to fit in.... My relatives all joke that there is one price for Vermonters and one price for us. (I get mad because I was born and raised in Vermont) If we had the money that people think we have - we'd be living up there already. But, we are pretty much like everyone else - just getting by and saving for our dream...a small cabin and enough to try and get by on.

We went up to check on the property a few weeks ago and the neighbors told us about a logging company from Maine that had gone onto our other neighbor's property (without her knowledge) and clear cut acres and acres. We hiked up our property to check it out and they literally took every single tree....or cut down every single tree all the way up to our property line. On the backside, they left all the scrub they didn't want and piled it in a long row (not sure how far it went) like 10 feet high.

I tried to get a hold of the neighbor but don't have her information - found an email online but she never responded back. (She lives in Burlington) We are going back up there in a couple of weeks and I will ask the neighbor's the name of the company if I can't find it sooner. My concern is that this may create a lot of errosian from the backside of our property.

I'm not sure what the laws are and what the company is going to do - replant the trees, etc....

Have any of you heard about this? I was hoping I'd find someone on here that might know....thought it was worth a shot! Thank you.

Tree theft...that's pretty serious, I'd try to get criminal charges filed, report it to the police...

If they were mature, large trees, I wouldn't settle for young/saplings being planted to replace them...

Crap, that is aweful............

I ahd some friends hunting in Glover the past couple weeks, I'll ask them if they came across anything like that or saw log trucks with a ME company on them rolling through the area. Roughly what part of Glover (don't need exacts)..........?

Hi, I agree with the above comments - this is a really serious offense - I learned this the hard way, sort of, when someone was on my property and clear cut w/out permission...the State takes this very seriously. I also learned that if you call one of the State forestors they can give you a very good idea of what was taken [I think they can figure that out by what is left/stumps, please correct me if I am wrong]....

I am not sure if this is the correct agency for you to contact and if not, I trust they will be able to assist/direct you to the appropriate agency.

Compliance & Enforcement Division

Thanks for the responses. The clear cutting wasn't done on my property....but all the way up to my property line. I know that the person whose property it was did not authorize it at all.

Ah man, they took every tree that they could.....these were old trees. One of them we used to lean against that had been growing out between two giant boulders....they had to go and take that one too.

Oh, they would have no problem figuring it out. You go from a forest canopy to wide open sky with stumps every where. I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

I appreciate the help and guidance. Thank you!

Oh yeah - this took place on the backside of Dexter Mountain Road. If you went all the way up and around - you'd find it...somehow.
