OK, so I took an 1 1/2 hr ride from Lake Placid to VT on my vaca. All to find out the bridge was closed. They are STILL working on bridges from the storm?

It looked like the ferry was operating. However, I had no idea of the scedules, fees, cars allowed?, ect...

Driving through some of those towns from Lake Placid to get to VT, WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I really found out what a recession is! So sad!

Which bridge are you referring to, being that LP is in the middle of the Dacks? The Crown Point Bridge was blown up 2 years ago, nothing to do with Irene. . It is set to open soon. The ferry runs 24/7 and is free. Irene destroyed 153 bridges all but 2 have been repaired. I think that is a pretty amazing acheivement in 2 months.

I was thinking the same thing...Lake Placid has land all around it. LOL! Maybe there's another LP near the border?

I'm guessing he means the Crown Point Bridge. As another poster said that has been a 2 year project so nothing to do with Irene. And yes the ferry is free operating 24/7. The longest you'd have to wait is maybe 10 minutes if you just miss the ferry.
The bridge is scheduled to open really soon-everyone is getting excited!

I used my GPS. However, I just used map quest to find the name of the bridge. Here is what map quest had there site:

Note to Lake Champlain Bridge travelers between New York and Vermont:
The Lake Champlain Bridge, also known as the Crown Point Bridge, which spans the lake between Crown Point, NY, and Chimney Point, VT, is closed indefinitely. We have updated our routing to reflect this closure, and remember you can click and drag your route to create the route path you prefer. Also, the New York State DOT is now providing free, 24-hour ferry service between Crown Point, NY and Chimney Point, VT in both directons. We recommend visiting the NYSDOT Lake Champlain Bridge Closure Page for additional ferry information and updates about the closure.

I had NO idea. I was on vaca and desided to head into VT.
