That's a pretty strong comment..can you do alittle better than "from what I hear". BTW high school kids around the entire planet experiment with sex, drugs and alcohol not just in Rutland, Vermont.

I want to ask KevinPM more about why he doesn't like Nantucket. We have relatives living there, and aside from everyone getting Lyme Disease, we didn't think it had any major problems. The whole island is kind of on the expensive side, isn't it?

I grew up in Rutland county, and I would like to discredit anything said about high school kids experimenting with sex, alcohol and heroin. Every town has a bad crowd but it's not fair to make such a mass generalization like that. I don't know a single person who has even tried heroin, let alone a bunch of people with a serious addiction. The only problem that Vermont has with heroin is people trafficking it through the Canadian border in Vermont. Not a lot of usage, but a lot of busts because of trafficking.

It gets a wee bit crowded, the public parts anyway, in the summer might also be part of it "from what I hear"....

Kelly I agree with your main point but my wife and 2 brothers are all grads of Rutland HS, we have 3 kids, one in college, one just graduated and one is in HS. A majority of the kids do try pot, do check out beer and going by the teenage pregnacy rates alot to check out sex. I agree with you about heroin but it's not the only drug out there.

The Rutland area does have a reputation for drug use, especially heroin. I don't have any first hand knowledge as I don't live there, but I do quite a bit of hiking and the most problem prone areas for trailheads to the Appalachian and Long Trail are all located in that area. What I mean by this is that cars parked there have a much higher chance of being broken into and also being vandalized.
