OK, you seem to have put a lot of thought into this. Maybe instead of running a small business you should be the Vermont Director of New Business Development. I agree that things could be done, and perhaps you're the right person. I can see it now: "FrugalYankee Saves Vermont Economy."

Default More good jobs gone

Tonight more bad news.

http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/a...sectionstories

It looks to be the third time this year. This is the old IDX on Shelburne Rd.

Updated March 7, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. with comments from GE Healthcare.

GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) announced another round of layoffs at its South Burlington, Vt., facility, a move it said is a result of declining demand for health care IT and performance solutions businesses.
The move is the "subsequent action" of layoffs numbering around 50 workers at the same facility last month, GE spokesman Corey Miller told MassDevice.
"We feel it's important in order to continue driving toward simplicity across both businesses," Miller told us in an email. "GE Healthcare always attempts to minimize impact on jobs before it becomes absolutely necessary."

I saw another article the other day with a company laying off 165 jobs over the next year in the Burlington area as well.

To an extent, people reap what they vote for.....

The GE job loss is due to the national economy, not Vermont's. There are plenty of high-tech jobs in Vermont and it's expanding. Here are just a few examples. Read a paper or watch the news once in awhile, pick up a copy of the monthly mag, Vermont Business News....get the facts. The same uninformed anti-Vermont business mantra by a few in here is getting old.

The best stories, from a jobs perspective, seem to be coming out of the Newport expansion etc. as well.

GE is not really laying off because of the economy. GE is looking to get out of the US. They continue to move more and more divisions overseas and have hired tens of thousands of overseas workers while laying off tens of thousands of US workers.
It's not individuals that give the state an anti business image. The state gives itself an anti business image. The reason companies in every New England state are seeing businesses leave is because of the expense of doing business in the Northeast. I would love nothing more than to have thousands of high paying quality jobs in state, but the tax structure doesn't support that unless there is a deal struck with the state (those high paying jobs would make my state taxes more bearable). I'm not looking pick on your links, but they are over a year old. I looked up Draker and they only have a project manager position that is available. I'm sure there will be many jobs from the EB-5 deal, but the deal could be at risk. The construction is not projected to start until 2013 and run to 2015. A big hurdle for the Feds to get over is the "fiscal cliff." If Congress can't come to an agreement within a months time, it could cause huge financial problem in this country as well as the world. A $1500/yr incentive is not that great. There are companies nationally that have much better incentives. A hospital in Minnesota (all jobs including IT for EMR) has offered $15000-20000 bonuses for a two year commitment. $1500 doesn't really hold much if you factor in COL.
Is Vermont going to be a tech giant? Probably not, but there will be tech jobs. As of today, there are 49 tech jobs available throughout the state (according to CareerBuilder.com). The question about if these jobs will keep the youth in state. If the numbers are correct, then no they won't. Young people want adventure. A big city has more appeal to youth than countryside. When I was young I could always get out of New York for a weekend adventure, but I didn't want that every day at that point in my life.

In this case the GE layoffs were due to them deciding not to move forward/cutting funding on a particular product (according to someone I know who works there).

If you believe what you wrote you have no clue.

As far as the same uninformed few, well I just joined and have been in the tech field for 30 years,oh and your links suck.

In three to five years GE will be gone why because this state is not friendly to business, simple.

IBM had to go to the state house and tell them they wanted nothing to do with single payer and because they are the second largest employer right after the state itself they got their way.
Thank god!!

Ya,and that's pretty sad.We have to pay foreigners to give us money for projects so they and their family can go to the front of the line with US citizenship.Who said this country is not for sale.

All I can say is that Bernie and Leahy are both getting old, when they go this state is screwed.
