Took a ride thru the Bershires and then to Bennington. I have not been to Bennington in about 10 years. This time holy moly, what a dump. Its changed. Losers , young losers, old losers, bums , down and outs all over! What happened. It was like the addicts came out to roost. Well left real quick! It was at one time nice!!!

I thought the college would help keep it nice, or at any rate, nicer than a similar town without one.

I don't really get the appeal of Bennington either. It doesn't feel like Vermont to me, more like New York. There are some nice parts of town though. Its not all run down.

I've also found a lot of people there to be really snobbish. In that dumpy town. Not an appealing place to me at all, it sort of makes Rutland look good.

Drove through Pittsfield, Mass recently. Yikes! Granted it has been a couple decades since I was there, but that town really went down the toilet.

I lived in Lenox when I was young. It's still nice and foofy.

Pittsfield used to be worse. They actually fixed it up!! Now North Adams is a different story. The people their are so lazy or drugged they dont even get dressed!! I seen so many out in PJ's walking around at 11 am!!

Bennington is alright. Don't be so harsh. It, like all "hubs" has an array of people. Its no Manchester, thats for sure, but its alright. There are a lot of really great people there too, and the main street isnt so bad. It has a lot of great businesses that have managed to stay afloat during these hard times. Good for them.

No Manchester ?
Manchester and Middlebury----Never got it. IF Bennington is New York, those two are more New Hampshire or North Jersey than Vermont.
On our road trip into Vermont, to move into our house, we stopped in Bennington for a cup of coffee and in a parking lot across from the diner was a huge, black bus with GIRLS GONE WILD screened all over it.
