I agree. THAT'S where you should be living, homesteader!

Nice picture here! I assume there's a drop past those tall trees. That cloud in the middle of the picture isnt fog. I believe its the result of vertical motion from the valley below lifting up into the atmosphere.
Do you remember if it was lifting into the sky or just sitting there? Very cool.

Yeah squarepeg, if any place would tempt me to stay in Vermont, it would be that area. I nearly bought a big piece of land in a nearby town last year. Ferdinand is a wonderful place, so wild and peaceful once you get off the highway. It struck me while camping there Sunday night there's simply no light pollution there, the stars are incredible at night. One of the reasons I really want no turbines put in there. Nothing but the wildlife. A large moose came into my campsite while I was putting logs on the fire. I guess the moose wanted to warm up too. Boreal chickadees, gray jays, spruce grouse, an occasional marten and lynx, the boggy spruce and birch forests, plants like labrador tea, etc....sort of a taste of the arctic in VT.

Lewis is quite the adventure to explore. Hard to get to, and the boggy forests are nearly impenetrable. I was hunting there and found myself in the middle of a bog more than once while following game trails. A person can really get lost in there if they don't know the place. The foliage scene from the Lewis Pond Overlook on a good day is the best in the state I think, but it wasn't the best day to see all the distant mountains. The road up was completely washed out so it made for a fun hike.

Hmmm...I honestly can't remember! But I'll have to pay attention from now on! We are definitely high up in elevation here and close to Mansfield so our weather changes constantly...I'm always amazed how much of a difference there is from the bottom of the road just to our condo, and even more so from town. It's kind of neat.
