Is that the perception of Shelburne and Charlotte....snooty??? I did not grow up in VT and currently live in Southern VT, so I truly wouldn't know.

They are the most upscale/wealthy "suburbs" of Burlington. Very "keeping up with the Joneses" like IMO. Totally not my style, but certainly quite a few people like living there. I love going to Shelburne for the restaurants but its just not somewhere I would personally live. Nothing wrong with it...it just doesn't fit my personality. It doesn't feel like "home" to me. It may to you!
If you want to be able to hunt/dirt bike right out your door then those towns are not for you. Like I and others have mentioned before, places like Hinesburg, Ferrisburgh, Monkton, Huntington, Jericho and Underhill would be more suitable I would think. Plus you'll get more for your money real estate wise than you would in Shelburne/Charlotte. Essex is nice too but a little more suburban than the other towns mentioned.

I agree with Vter's assessment of Charlotte and Shelburne. One positive thing about Hinesburg is that it's closer to Stowe than the towns along the busy Rt 7 corridor. Additionally the traffic getting into Burlington from the towns you mentioned can be a challenge with many commuters while getting into Burlington from Hinesburg is not as bad and you have a couple of options as to which way to go. Stowe via Richmond from Hinesburg is much faster as well.

Thanks!! I will check out Hinesburg. I do like the idea of being closer to Stowe(family there) and also less traffic into Burlington.
