we spent the day filling sandbags for bridge street in Waitsfield. Quite a community effort... i think they said we did 2000 + bags or something. It was 5 or 6 small dump beds full. I think everyone's hope, is that it may be for nothing,... but much better to do prep work than clean up work.

does anyone know what the projection is for VT now? i can't make sense of all of this stuff ???

The latest is that we should get more wind than rain.
A *HIGH WIND WATCH* is in effect for northern New York, all of Vermont, and western New Hampshire from Monday morning through Tuesday morning. The wind will be northeast at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts over 60 mph possible, especially along the western slopes of the Green Mountains. A few hurricane-force gusts may occur as well. The wind will strengthen on Monday, and reach its maximum intensity from late afternoon through midnight. Now is the time to prepare and stock up on water, easy-to-prepare food, flashlights, and batteries. Be especially careful if you're traveling Monday night, since downed trees, branches, and power lines are likely to be an issue. The wind is expected to slowly diminish after midnight Monday night and on Tuesday, though Tuesday may still have gusts to 40 mph, especially early in the day.
Only 1-3 inches of rain expected as of now

Looks like it's making a left turn at DC and heading for Pittsburgh. Bummer.

Starting to move that inland band of rain back the other way and merging I guess.

Looks like a nasty storm but not the end of the world or Frankenstorm, hopefully. It will all depend on how much rain over what period of time......the 40-70mph winds don't worry me as much, we get those several times per year with the nasty summer storms that roll through our area. I would expect maybe a 2-3 days of lost power, the good news is that it isn't cold or hot.....so we can make do.

Good luck to everyone.....I sure hope the rivers can drain it this time around......

All the best to my Green Mountain friends.

Currently getting windy here on the north shore of LI (I am directly across from Bridgeport.) Evacuations are in place in low lying coastal areas, including parts of NYC. Mass transit preparing to shut down, schools are closing for the next day or two.

Let's hope this thing peters out and spares VT.

At the moment it looks as if Vermont isn't going to get that much rain. Because of the counterclockwise spin, the east side of the Green Mountains may be a little worse than the west side. However, the expected path of the center currently appears to be moving over New York to Canada and missing Vermont. It looks as if the worst damage will be in NJ, NY and CT.

Yeah, I'm surprised WV, MD, and VA are getting the best of it.
