I just wanted to thank Vermonters for re-electing my favourite politician, Bernie Sanders. Not only do you live in a beautiful state with friendly people, you are smart too. Look forward to visiting again and getting some Catamount beer.

The man's a fraud. He's gotten rich while pretending to be fighting the rich.

arctichomesteader, if you don't like Bernie, why don't you move to Kentucky so that you can have the fine pair of Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul as your senators? The money behind Bernie Sanders is nothing compared to what the Grover Norquist and the Koch brothers clubs shell out. If you ask me, Bernie Sanders has more integrity than practically anyone in Washington.

Also Brattleboro is one of the nicest towns I've ever visited. Definitely will be back there.

I'll continue to call out hypocrites on their hypocrisy.

And KY is way too hot for me.

I won't touch P&OC forum topics with a ten foot pole-everyone has some bias, based on which beliefs make sense to them, and those beliefs diverge across the populace.
I'll merely state that I agree with the above quote, I did vote (as always I do), and am pleased to see that Sanders won once again.

I don't know exactly how you mean that Sanders is a hypocrite. As far as I know, he hasn't said that being rich is evil. I doubt he's that rich anyway. The obvious hypocrites are the ones whose campaigns are financed by large corporations. Fracking is great as long as you're really just an employee of a large oil company.

It sounds as if you've got a bit of a dilemma about where to live. On paper, the Deep South looks perfect. Maybe you'll have to compromise with somewhere like North Dakota. I'd rather die than have Todd and Sarah Palin as next door neighbors.

Let's not get too political here or good ol' vter will be forced into action.

A person who campaigns on socialist ideas but makes himself rich in the process is a hypocrite. The thing is, in some ways I agree with Sanders' ideas on the big corporations/wall street, but he's a hypocrite on it in reality, and he's a big nanny stater. The Affordable Care Act was essentially a handout to the big insurance companies and will hit singles like myself with a penalty if we don't buy insurance. I will never fogive someone who voted for the AWB in 1994 and other such abominations.

I do not like the deep South. I'm not a social conservative. I'll either remain in Northern New England or go to Alaska when I can afford to. I'll remain the thorn in the side of statists everywhere.

This whole thread is political. It's a pretty silly topic really, thanking a state for the way they voted.

I still don't get how you think Sanders is a hypocrite. Unless he has at least $10,000,000 in the bank he isn't rich by Washington standards. Besides, he's famous now and could easily make that much on speaking engagements and book tours. If he lived a simple life like Gandhi, in this country no one would take him seriously and he'd be laughed out of office.

The Affordable Care Act was the best legislation that could be passed under a weak president with an obstructionist opposition. But it was written in a way that allows for it to be improved over time. The problem is really the high cost of health care, and obviously the free market system hasn't fixed that on its own. If the U.S. just followed the lead of other advanced countries, it would be much less expensive than it is, and that requires greater government involvement.

Actually, I don't like the U.S., and it would be fine with me if Vermont seceded. Unfortunately, most of the people advocating that are nutty. Compared to all the other states, I think Vermont looks pretty good the way it is. Count your blessings.

Obviously we'll never agree on Sanders.

I would not want us to be like the UK where healthcare is rationed. If we had a state-run (not federally run) universal healthcare system in this country that never rations care except in extreme emergencies, does not fund abortions, sex change surgeries, and any other such things including plastic surgery, possibly I could get behind it. What the healthcare law passed does is mandate I buy private insurance. Just more of the same handouts to big corporations, and, no matter what the SCOTUS says, i still say the feds have no authority to mandate anything like that. The growth of the central government needs to end.

Trust me, I appreciated Vermont the day I took a wrong exit and ended up in a Cleveland ghetto. Oh what fun that was.

Now secession, that could be interesting...
