Any suggestions for good winter boots - Thinking mainly for taking the dog out, short walks, sledding, driving (specifically not too stiff for manual trans), as opposed to for any serious winter hiking, etc. for both men and women. Something comfortable and easy on and off is a plus.

For example:

SOREL | Men’s Caribouâ„¢ Boot

or
SOREL | Men’s 1964 Premiumâ„¢ T CVS Boot

Kamik - Winter Collection 2012

We bought some of these for my husband and he wore them for the first time today. Came into the house raving about how comfy they are--you don't even know you're wearing boots. He cleaned out the car and walked the dog wearing them.

My mom was here for this past week and has never ever had a good pair of winter books (living in NYC she didn't really need anything crazy). We bought her a pair of Kamik Brooklyns just yesterday - very lightweight, comfortable, waterproof and allegedly rated to -40 (I"ll believe it when I see it). She tried on a few others but they were very stiff and hard to get in and out of - she is 77 and easy to put on and lightweight were key.

Great brands named above. I always wore Sorels until I bought a pair of Actons that were on sale about 6 years ago. Sadly, this will be their last winter as the tread is worn too far down. I've replaced the liners twice. One strip of velcro over the top of your instep and a quick drawstring at mid calf - that's all there is to getting them on and off. Because of this, I thought they might pose a problem for any kind of distance walking but I've chugged between 2-5 miles almost every winter's night in them.

Just stay away from the things that kinda look like boots at places like Walmart. But if you're considering Sorels, I guess you already knew that.

I've had my Kamicks for 10 years and they've held up great. I wear them when snowblowing my driveway or snowshoeing.

I also have Bogs, which are super warm but not as comfortable (they are made out of scuba diving material so they're very tight). But, they are completely waterproof and great for slogging through mud and water. I use them as my commuting boots.

I wear my LL Bean mudboots during warmer weather. They are waterproof but not warm enough for winter.

I have Sorel and Baffin. Baffin are the warmest (rated to -148F) and I use them primarily on the sled. They are light weight and aren't as clunky as the Sorel boots I own. My Sorel's are the Caribou(?) and they are your basic, clunky snow boots with liners and are very warm.

I have been doing OK with lug sole sandals and a couple of pair of wool socks. Warm emopugh and my feet dry out by themselves. Just avoid stepping in deep puddles of ice water.
