Climate change blamed for fading foliage - Yahoo! News (broken link)

The warm weather may or may not be responsible.
It was interesting to me as new Vermonter.

I thought the color was outstanding this year.

Last year was average.

Year before, foliage color was pretty much non-existent.

Sort of related....We had huge tour busses going by our house all through
October. It felt like being on display like a manaquin or a monkey
in a zoo whenever we did yardwork

I'm with quickdraw...the colors this year (over here in the Champlain Valley) are MUCH brighter and have lasted longer than the past few years.

Stunning reds. First bright reds since I moved here a few years ago.

I live in strictly tourist or blink town. Every day is like 'look at the locals in their yard' day. Pretty funny since we've been here less than 2 months, yet every day I give out directions.

Sometimes I just want to say "Ee yup, down the road a piece," or something "old country like.' It's funny when they ask where so and so is and I come out with my NY accent. LOL.

The leaves are looking quite nice here, by the way.

"Does this road go to Lebanon?"
"Nope, stays right where it is."

"Can I take this road to White River Junction?"
"Don't matter to me."

Of course, you have to use the Vermont accent.

Funny Lily!
We also play a game called "Spot the Mass****" (so many license plates from MA).

The colors right now are gorgeous been out photographing them all week. I wouldn't take too seriously news about the New England foliage eminating from California.

Last weekend I was up in NW Maine photographing and was at an overlook on Lake Mooselookmaguntic, the colors were stunning. A car from Mass pulled up and the folks were enjoying the view when one said to me...."what's going on, the Boston Globe showed on their foliage map that this area was way past peak"....there you go.

Why does Vermont have superior foliage color compared to other NE states? And why would people from MA come to Vermont to see it? Just curious. By the way, I live in N. CA and we have very nice fall color here. About an hour from where I live, they have a fall harvest festival every October, and really have beautiful foliage and scenery - you'd never know you were in CA!
Just one more thing about the Yahoo story. It's this kind of thing that has soured me on the whole climate change thing. Theses are published reports that are not fact-based, and are intentionally skewed and biased, for whatever reason. Some would say they are outright lies. But if you are not familiar with NE, or don't know anyone there, then you would most likely believe what you read as the absolute truth, and think that the fall foliage was terrible this year!
