It was below zero outside. I've learned the hard way that it's not likely there are other options in the middle of nowhere at 11pm. I know because I have driven around hopelessly looking for a place to stay late at night in Vermont previously. It's like being in the dark ages where everything closes. I guess Vermonters don't travel at night.

Meh - can't compare Alaska - big oil is supplementing everything out there.

If some one just up and gave me 50 acres of land I'd have to assume it was all designated wetland and therefore a tax burden that could not be developed or used. Or maybe they had buried a bunch of leaking fuel tanks there or something even worse, leaving me with the responsibility of cleaning up some environmental disaster.

Sorry Hopes, I meant to clean that up before we left...... :-)

Sorry to everyone, I just couldn't let that one go......and yes, that would be insanely gross to encounter.

As for the fantasy of 50 acres..........I have plenty of ideas, some that have been mentioned here but reality is tough and people here have posted realistic cautions. I was close to buying a couple similar sized parcels and backed away for all the same reasons mentioned here. Instead I ended up with my 4.1 acres of fun and enjoy it for what it is.

As for taxes.......I do not enjoy my tax bill and pork job from VT.

Just curious here
Thanks

Hold onto it and continue working out-of-state.
