How much can you spend? If you get desperate you can try VRBO. Rates seem to start around $600/ week.

I didn't find anything near Montpelier except for this
Northfield 1 Bedroom Vacation Rentals sleeping 2-plus From VRBO

so you may be in for a drive.

Our house in NM didn't sell yet, so we still need to pay the mortgage while paying the rent. So we can't afford a vacation home for $600 a month. I never thought it would be so hard to find a reasonable house for rent. Even for $1500 a month, there is really nothing available out there this time of year. My husband is willing to commute for about an hour if we could only find something reasonable.

Can you go to plan B? Hubby gets a cheap room and you stay in NM? If you're stuck with your home there and mortgage you might as well get the benefit of living there.

I'm not sure if this is out of your budget, but it's right in town and available. I semi-know the landlord as he used to be my neighbor. He's not a very chatty type hence not knowing him well. Nice enough guy. Nothing bad to report about him and he's known around town.

Thank you so much. We are coming with all our stuff and furniture, so we need something that's not furnished. Plus we have a dog (a standard poodle) and third floor is not very good. The price would be acceptable, but it's a hustle to unload all your furniture and put it in a storage. Thank you so much for your kindness.

Thank you so much, my husband has checked this already, he spent days and nights just looking for a place to rent. They are either too far (more than an hour drive), or not available till June or later, or no pets, or fully furnished, or way too expensive... I never thought it would be so hard. Thank you so much everyone for being so kind and trying to help.

Have you contacted any local real estate agents? Often they have a rental agent.
