Taxes for real estate in New Hampshire are the highest in New England. There is no income tax or sales tax- but revenue still has to be found- so its all in real estate taxes.

Yes New Hampshire is more conservative then Vermont- but just about every state is! The state has voted 'blue' in 3 out of 4 of the last elections.

Also most of the jobs in the state are in the more urbanized part of the state near the Mass. border.

NH has the lowest tax burdin in the nation this is fact. As for jobs they are state wide even in Berlin I know 5 ppl that just moved up there and all had jobs within 2 weeks. And yes 3 of the last 4 elections we went blue unfortunetly but just barley went blue and that was due to the mass-wholes that come up they are being driven back to Taxachusetts more and more. you can't say the state is going blue just cause a few population spots got overfilled with mass-wholes we make tougher laws give a couple the death penalty and take away welfare they will move. 1 is going to fight extradition now because he don't want death. and I know at least 10 welfare families going back to mass due to our welfare telling them sorry you can't get on your feet in 2 years sucks to be you funding DENIED. we don't take to welfare scum or liberals. even the areas of the state that voted blue still have a large pocket of resistance. I'm seeing more and more LIBERAL HUNTING PERMIT stickers on cars and trucks latly WITH unlimited bag limits we should be able to get them all LOL

Real estate taxes are very high in New Hampshire-higher then any other state in New England.

Taxes pay for local services- good schools and fire/police protection, libraries. services for Seniors- streets being plowed after a blizzard. If New Hampshire thinks that they can get these services for nothing-good luck- the state does NOT have the lowest tax burden in the nation- believe me- what they do not tax you for sales and income- they get you on the very high real estate taxes.

Politically New Hampshire is a and 'liberals' seems juvenile and silly- simply put the people of the state are tired of the right wing reactionary garbage of the GOP- and are smart enough to know you get nothing if you do not pay for it.

Study after study has proven you wrong Nh always comes in first with low taxes ppl pay. yes our property taxes are high but VT is not to far from matching and you still have your sales tax. as far as NH ppl tired of the GOP FAR FROM IT We stand behind the GOP 80% of the time just because we don't agree with bush don't mean we don't stand with the GOP. DIDN'T see anyone VOTE for DEAN LOL (unlike VT) WE IN NH are a much more conservative don't wast money and don't hug trees whe don't rehabilatat criminals we incarserate them IF you don't work for a living here we will shunn you and give your kids to someone who does.AFTER 2 years of welfare if you can't stand on your feet the state takes custody of your kids and you go to the street.when the shelters max out YOU FREEZE. WE might not have the services like subways but we have work and pay less in taxes than any other state. check the stats and KNOW what you are talking about before you trash. IN NH WE ARE MUCH BETTER THAN YOU VT LIBERALS.

Lynch a Demo will be re elected Governor

NH is an increasingly liberal state, much in line with the rest of New England- denial of this is sheer folly- the shift to the center and left is seen in the states voting patterns. Senator Sununu has even parted with the far right and Bush.

Anyone who ses NH as it was 25 years ago is delusional.

Politics - Yes, Vermont is more liberal than NH. We have our fare share of tree huggers here, but you'll find that most folks, especially natives, sit in the middle. In fact, on election day, I'll be voting for a mix of democrats & republicans. No socialists though .
Towns/areas - I would NOT recommend Woodstock or Stowe. These are "tourist" towns and lots of wealthy folk from the cities have either settled there or have second home there. These 2 towns are not at all the real Vermont.
I think you would really like the Northeast Kingdom (NEK). St. Johnsbury is the "hub" of the area. St. Johnsbury has an excellent high school. It's near Burke Mountain for skiing, and the White Mts of NH are close by for hiking. Great streams, rivers & ponds for fishing. Hunting is HUGE in the NEK. Since it's so close to NH, you can hunt there too (on a NH license) of course. VT & NH seasons are a bit different, so you'll get to hunt longer if you hunt in both states. A friend of mine who lives over there hunts in Pittsburg, NH for NH season then in the Danville area for VT season.
I grew up in the NEK and now live near Middlebury. Middlebury is a nice town with lots of outdoorsy activities - skiing, fishing, hiking etc. Hunting is not as big over here as in the StJ area. More & better job opportunities though with it's proximity to both the Burlington area and Rutland.
Hope this helps!

NH has never been far right NOT now or before we just don't go far left either we are conservatives and will remain as for the idiot gov we have ya he will get elected again probobly due to nh giving ppl 2nd chance but he wont make a 3rd term and he might not make a 2nd term the gov seat is going to be close. I know I will not vote for the tax crazy duck and hide demicrap Lynch is not a liberal hes a demacrate TAX and spend TAX and spend. Manchester just got rid of one of those you tax we kick you out of office. somethings are needed but to tax to the exsteam is not. I've voted democrate 1 time and the guy will always get my vote hes the welfare commishiner in manchester anyone that puts $200000 back to the city fund every year is going to stay in office they cut his budget he gives more back the following year now thats how its done. AS for Bush no he has no big fans in NH but the GOP always will aside from the far Right we are not bible thumpers we do exspect less goverment and less taxes use what we got don't tax us more if something needs to be cut than cut it.

For more info on the Northeast Kingdom, check out the Chamber's website. http://www.nekchamber.com/ Having been to the Missouri part of the Ozarks (does Branson/Springfield count?), it reminded me a bit of the Kingdom.
For the Middlebury area check out http://www.midvermont.com/

I read that NH has the 2nd lowest tax burden in the US. I'm not sure how to post websites here, so just Google "How tax friendly is your state" and click on the CNN/Money site. Alaska takes the cake, and NH is 2nd. Maine is the highest taxed state, NY second, and VT is sixth.

I believe all Northern New England states (VT, NH, or ME) are excellent places to live. I also love upstate NY, which is very similar as well, and has cheaper housing to boot.
