Now to see what happens in Vermont. My guess is a 90% chance of shutdown/phaseout.

IBM shutting down/leaving will be a disaster for Vermont.

According to Hedrick Smith in What Happened to the American Dream?, IBM is already an Indian company, which is where most of its employees already live.

I sent a proposal to the Ways and Means Committee as to how to prevent this sort of sale from harming Vermont (as a result of witnessing Springfield's Precision Valley disemboweled by Textron, but got absolutely nowhere. They sent it along to Patricia Moulton Powden for analysis, she filed it and quit her job. I got zip for feedback.

If such a law had been passed, it would have assured that either Vermont-friendly buyers would get it or Vermont would make a killing in taxes from Global Foundries purchasing it.
