If it's in Barre, it's ugly and bad.

The Spaulding H.S. I knew has long been converted into the home for the Vermont Historical Society. It was a decent high school back then, good academics, good basketball team, average arts program. Somehow I don't think that is much help for you though. Barre and Rutland were both industrial and stone cutter cities, so quickdraw has a historical point.

Barre does have an image problem but they are working on it. The city totally redid Main St two summers ago and along with that has come some other improvements like a new office building in the middle of downtown, renovation of the former Grand Union shopping center, other buiding improvements and developments. Methinks Quickdraw has not been in Barre for a few years.

As far as Spaulding HS concerned here is a link which should provide some current and factual info, not based on the regurgatation of personal non-resident opinions.

It will probably always be abit on gritty side as it's old granite industry is still going strong. Lots of good things going on in Barre as well.

Having attended Spaulding in the last 6 years I can tell you a few things. The teachers are good at their jobs, the floors could be cleaner, The lunches healthier, the students could be... well better students. the problem with SHS isn't the school so much as the population. I enjoyed my time at SHS and it has a lot of good qualities, but like any school it has a few things it needs improved. Honestly though I would recommend U-32 or Montpelier High School before I would SHS (I attended all 3) U-32 and MHS both have more relaxed systems that allow for more freedom and the floors are cleaner, aside from that I would say the teaching quality is on par for all 3 schools (They have to be... Vermont has one of the highest standards for Education)
