Never had a problem.

I have very close friends here that go way back and they are all contractors of some sort and have welcomed me into their "woodchuck" hunting camps etc. as I basically line up with their ideals and pull more than my weight in camp.

That being said, you can still run into the occasional close minded person which is fine, I just move on. I don't take it personally anymore than if someone from the mid-west moved to Boston and was treated like a slow country bumpkin.

In more and more areas, the successful (read good quality and well run) businesses are run by people with ties to other areas of the country not 5 generations of VTers. So that right there is a dynamic shift. In other more rural areas, the seemingly poor service etc. is because their is no competition forcing them to be any better at what they do.

One of the problems in less prosperous areas is anyone with the skills, personality and perseverance to be a prosperous contractor has moved to a place with enough money to let him earn a good living.

I just honk the horn on my BMW 550i xDrive. That always works when I get slow service in Vermont.
