Long story short I've been considering transitioning for a long time but I live in a state that is not very accepting and very few laws that help in that regard.

My question is Vermont a fairly tolerant state for this over all? Are there places that are safer or more tolerant of transgender people? I'm mostly just looking a safe place to transition and any info would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I'd encourage you to prioritize the Burlington area. Most of the state's LGBT organizations and events are there, and there are a lot of colleges that are really making efforts to be more trans-friendly. (Check out this NY Times article).

Note: City data won't let me type the Q word of the LGBTQ acronym without converting it to asterisks.

I identify as ***** myself, and I moved to Vermont in part because I wanted to live in a more *****-friendly state. One thing I did not realize before moving here is how incredibly rural the state is. I've heard gay couples make humorous references to things like meeting another gay couple and saying "Oh! You must be the other gay couple in town." I didn't pause to think about how the state's population and rural makeup limits the potential for ***** community before I moved here.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more specific questions, but I'd urge you to try to live in Burlington before moving to a random small town. That said, Brattleboro is pretty *****-friendly. I live in Montpelier and was surprised by the lack of ***** community I've encountered. I attribute it to the small population, though.
