(Moot, not mute.) Try to negotiate for on-site housing of some sort, or some type of housing as a pre-condition of employment. Having a job (even seasonal) right out of college is a huge bargaining point for your next job. Just the word Vermont carries clout in some circles. Earn while you learn, use the time to also search out that next job while employed.

How about camping for the summer?

You're young and adventuresome. My former BIL lived in a camper all summer before they could afford a house in New Hampshire. He wasn't the only person living in a campground and getting up and going to work in the morning. You can buy a cheap used popup or maybe there'll be some kind of a camper for rent that's already in a campground. Showers are cheap or free, food cooked over a camp stove or a fire--people DREAM of this. I wouldn't give up.

Well you need to plan a bit but I think it can be done. There is housing, but fairly pricey. If you are a single person and not rooming with people it is a lot tougher. The people employing you and can help you with this and point you in the right direction........so it is seasonal work, welcome to vermont. I worked many years seasonally and so do lots of vermonters. From contractors, to park rangers, cooks, ski area workers, working on farms seasonality is often part of vermont life. I worked in the apple orchards in the summer through harvest and then in the ski areas in the winter. In the fall when your done you will be in what they call taint season. In the early spring we have mud season. Both last about 3-4 weeks and you will end up looking forward to those seasons as they are the time you are out of work but know you will have much in the coming months. This time is often spent drinking beer and playing cards or perhaps hunting or boiling sap. Other options include things like spending your winter in a warm Caribbean island job and then returning to the beautiful Vermont summer. Keep your mind and options open.
