We're planning to drive up to Montpelier from Boston on a Saturday.
Any tips on:
Places to visit with kids (age 10)
Vegetarian friendly restaurants
Where to experience Fall Foliage

Thank you

Unfortunately you are a little too late for good foliage. You may see some pockets of nice late color but we are moving swiftly into what us locals refer to as "stick season".
Any reason you picked Montpelier? I would suggest driving the extra 15-30 minutes and go to Waterbury/Stowe. The 10 year old would like a visit to the Ben & Jerry's factory I'm sure. Cold Hollow Cider Mill is a fun spot.
If you stick to Montpelier you could go for a hike in Hubbard Park. Montpelier has a lot of good restaurants. I can't comment on veg friendly restaurants but can tell you my favorites are the Three Penny Taproom, Sarduccis, La Brioche Bakery.
Edited to add: Mad Taco!

I was not aware of Ben & Jerry's factory. Thank you so much!

Yeah we're quickly entering stick season here in Waterbury, thought still some pockets of color and it looks really nice now with the snow on the peaks. I'd imagine most of the foliage will be gone by this weekend though, as it's been windy and rainy and will continue to be that way for another day or two.
