I'm headed to Vermont shortly to help some family members out with a project. I haven't been to Vermont in 20 years. I don't remember ever encountering ticks when I was there last, but I hear times must have changed because ticks are now a problem.

Is this true for the whole state or just some areas? And just how bad are the ticks?

I'm from a tick-free area so I'm not looking forward to that part of the visit....

I was n the woods daily in Vermont for decades and was tick-free. I was in suburban Connecticut for one weekend and got Lyme disease. Your best bet is to find out what the incidence is for the locality you'll be in.

Plenty of ticks up here in the Stowe/Waterbury area. If they've made it this far, they're probably up to the border by now.

My standard operating procedure is anytime I do any work out in the yard I then take a shower and put on clean clothes just in case I picked up a tick along the way. I have yet to have found a tick on myself or my clothes, but I take comfort in my routine nonetheless.

Haha! When I lived in a tick infested area for college, I wore two sets of clothes at almost all times so I could take the outer set off before I got into my car. Comforting routine as well.

Ticks in Stowe - wow. Definitely sounds like things have changed. how sad.

Thanks for the info everyone!

I pulled a deer tick out of my leg yesterday in fact. I own property in Essex County and until last year it was tick-free. No longer, I get ticks there too. I recorded a temperature of -35 degrees last winter too, but it wasn't enough to kill them (deep snow).

I'll be in Chittenden County. I will have to call some vets there to ask.

Seems that deep winters don't have much of an effect on ticks once they get a foothold. Being in Lower 48 where people drive into the state with tick-laden animals probably doesn't help.

Plenty in Windsor County as well. It's become regular routine with our family to do a thorough tick check when showering at night if you've been doing anything out in the brush.
