Is there anyone that has an opinion on this?

Old cemetery poses grave dilemma for buyers of Vt. farm - Yahoo! News (broken link)

Just wondering what the opinion is out there. I have my own, but it is based on growning up in Hartland and having worked with Mr. Guite. I'll leave it as it's not a positive opinion.

Typical. VT comes in last in property rights. If the descendants loved their ancestors they shouldn't have sold off the cemetery or included a deed restriction and taken a lower price. But to sell and then insist on having property rights is ridiculous. Funny how everyone interviewed doesn't mind the state taking property and moving graves but a private landowner oh no, never. That said I wouldn't move graves to build a house. They mention in the article that the fellows offer to buy is contingent on being able to move the graves why don't the folks against it raise the money and buy it themselves instead of using the state to take someone's property rights. Dirty commies, state's full of em.

Isn't 62 a little old to be having young children? I guess for a man, they can be a father at any age. But I still think it's a bit odd. And what's wrong with telling children that there's an historical gravesite on the property, and they should show some respect for it? Death is a part of life, and as long as it's not gruesome, I think there's nothing wrong with acknowledging to your kids that the dead have rights like the living do. I wonder if this guy ever saw the movie "Poltergeist"?

The cemetery should stay. Imagine the nightmare precedent this could establish if they allow a private landlowner to start relocating cemeteries?

Whatever happened to the term "FINAL resting place?"

The owner knew the cemetery was there prior to purchase and only wants it moved in order to build in what he deems the most desirable location on the land.

OK... now I'll say what I know from personal experience working for the guy.

He had his kids stay in CT while he was in VT (guess the schools weren't good enough).

He charged expenses for his African safari with said children (2 girls if I remember right) to VTel and got in trouble with PUC for it, I believe there was a fine....

I couldn't stand the attitude that he deserved everything on a silver platter, and finally quit the job.

Unless he has a whole new family, different wife, etc., he kids should be out of HS by now!

The guy being a jerk has nothing to do with property rights. If you have a cemetery and you want it to stay forever(except for eminent domain) deed it as such before you sell the property. And the guy was probably right about the schools.

The dude should erect a flag pole and enjoy the historical significance of his new home.

Property rights?

This is just another wealthy dead beat coming north!

Are you making the case that property rights should vary based on personal wealth and prior state residence?
