My husband and I are planning a 3 day trip to Woodstock in Feb .
We do not ski.
Is this town a good choice for Feb or did I miss the best time to go there (Christmas /NY lights etc )?
I have passed by the town once and found it to be very charming as is evidenced on numerous travel websites.

Woodstock is a very pretty and upscale town with some nice inns and places to eat. I don't think there is a *bad* time to be there, but If you're not into winter sports, I'd think about waiting for late April/early May - the weather will be a lot friendlier than in February, and the black flies won't be out yet. Some other towns with some similarities in the area would be Norwich, VT and Hanover, NH - just across the Connecticut River from one another and a 1/2hr from Woodstock. The "downtown" portion of Quechee is small, but interesting and the Quechee Gorge is also nice to check out, and that's between Woodstock and the other two towns.

Woodstock is 20 minutes from the closest parking lot for Killington. They can do 15,000+ skiers per day on a good February weekend. 3 days in Woodstock midweek should be fine other than Presidents Week. Saturdays are really busy. If you're doing a weekend, make your restaurant reservations early.

The only place to stay is the Woodstock Inn. This is a destination in itself. The room rates in February depend on what the date is and type of room. For instance on Tuesday, Feb 15, a king bedroom is $299 but on Thursday that increases to $429.

I was planning on this place to stay .
We will be there for one full day and the evening before and morning after .
If you say this is a destination in itself , this and strolls in downtown area plus meals should take up my time without venturing far .

That’s accurate.

Most people would do a minor field trip. Simon Pearce is 10 minutes to the east. A glass place in a mill building on a mill pond with a bunch of factory retail space and a nice restaurant. Reservations at the restaurant are mandatory. Another mile east, the bridge over Queechee gorge on Route 4 is with a look since you’re already there. I’d suggest you take the back road north of the river to get there and take Route 4 back. The back road starts at the Billings Farm & Museum. I’ve bicycled it a number of times. You get river views, a covered bridge, and pass through the horse-oriented stuff at Queechee resort. Some of it isn’t paved but it’s flat and well maintained so you don’t normally need snow tires.

The Prince and the Pauper across the green from the Woodstock Inn has good dining. You want reservations a few weeks in advance. We like the Tavern in the Woodstock Inn but that room is closed. I haven’t eaten there since COVID but the food & service has always been very good.

Personally, I like to gawk at the furniture at the Shackleton Furniture place in the Bridgewater mill building on the Woodwork line. Their craftsmanship is amazing. Ramunto’s has good pizza by the slice. That’s 10 minutes west on Route 4. You go past the Woodstock Farmer’s Market which is the closest thing to a country store in Woodstock.

If you're interested in history I recommend the Billings Farm and Museum. It's a national park (so if you have one of those passes it's free) and quite interesting.

If you're interested in art the St. Gaudens National Historic Park is about half an hour away in New Hampshire, and you can see many of his monumental sculptures. Better in warmer weather, I would think.
