With quite a few questions concerning where to look, what it costs, etc concerning property and homes I recommend folks check out the State of Vermont, Dept of Taxes website and go to Statistics, Property Transfer Tax. Click on statistical summary data and you can choose any year from from 1990 to the present 2008 YTD stats statewide, by county, and by town. The nice feature is that it breaks down all sales of property by category, such as residential above or below 6 acres, vacation, condo, land, farm, mobile home, etc. You can also see how many properties sold and what both the average and median prices were. Anyway, it's just another research tool for folks to get an idea and historical perspective of markets and areas and can keep you busy for quite a while. Granted, it will not tell you what's on the market now and what the average days on the market, asking vs selling price, etc are, but there are a few realtor websites where you can glean this info.
