I am thinking about taking a job at Highgate and was looking for advice concerning places to buy a house. I have a wife and a one year old. Most importantly, I would like to live in a family oriented city or town where my wife (who does not have a job) can meet friends quickly. Swanton and St. Albans seem like good possibilities, however I am cuirious about the quality of life in these places. I wouldn't mind Burlington, but it seems like it might be too far as I want to keep my total commute time around an hour. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

St. Albans and Swanton are both good places. With both having good priced homes. St. Albans lately has been getting press regarding some crimes...but it is getting better. The new police Chief is cleaning the town up.

I like St. Albans. I"d live in the town, not the City. But then again, I'm not a "city" person. St. Albans Town is a good mix of suburban and rural.
Swanton is a nice small town. If you'd rather be closer to Burlington, check out Georgia & Milton. Georgia has school choice at the high school level.
