I'm new this this forum--I have lived in VT for almost two years but my job kept me very busy and unable to connect w/ the community. Now I am experiencing a change in positions and have a lot more free time on my hands and finding it difficult to relate to the community. I grew up in Denver, CO so this whole northern New England culture is foreign to me. I find that, especially in the small towns, there are the people who have been there forever and it's hard to get into their circles...there also seem to be a lot of "transplants" up here and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same difficulties I am relating to the community?

I really just need some friends to make life here more bearable!!

Join a local church or join the fire depertment. These are the fastest 2 ways to meet people in rural Vermont.
Rural Vermonters are not overly social either as you've found out.

PS. Where in the Kingdom are you? Are you in the StJ area by chance? If so, I can give you some ideas - volunteer at the Athaneaum (library) or the hospital. Go to the band concerts. Go to the Academy sports games/concerts, etc. Read the local paper to see if there are any intersting events/classes you could attend.

Native Vermonters )I'm one)tend to be very anti-social outside their own families.
Watch closely and you can see its also VERY class concious if u r not from one
of the "good" families who run the town you just dont matter.
