I think I wrote in a post somewhere that Vermont was one of two states that had once been independent contries. The other one was Texas.

Well, I was totally wrong. According to Wikipedia, in the article on Vermont:

"Vermont is one of only five U.S. states or parts of states to have once been an independent nation, the other four being California, Hawaii, Texas, and the Florida Parishes of Louisiana."

I stand corrected.

I believe Vermont is one of the few states that, post-Silver War/The Wauh of Northern Aggression, has considered secession.
Which is increasingly looking like a good idear.

Cool Link Too bad the 1930's was part of that. VT is already known as a high tax state, but to be known as the first to tax gas isn't something to be proud of. LOL But the rest sure is.

Make that six. From 1832-1835, citizens in an area of northern New Hampshire operated as an independent country known as the Indian Stream Republic.
