I made a new homemade bread recipe yesterday and it was AWESOME!
I'm not working now anyhow, so I may bake one day a week, a few loaves.
I was personally very impressed. I don't like store bought bread and these days it tastes worse than ever.

I actually have had to refrain from making bread...we don't really buy it, but when I make it fresh, we eat WAY too much of it!!!

Sure, when I find it (I saved it somewhere and modified it).

tkln--this is very true. I hardly ever eat bread unless it's from the bakery/supermarket or homemade. I think I ate 2/3rds of the loaf I made (it's all gone just now to toast!).

I got it from this website
The Simple Dollar » Homemade Bread: Cheap, Delicious, Healthy, and Easier Than You Think

Not sure if we are allowed to post links from other websites...? If not, a mod can cut it.

I added an egg to the dough and it was quite sticky (I wasn't paying attention but I make dough a lot so I know to keep adding in flour). So it may or may not work the same for you (I wasn't sure how much sugar I added).

I love to knead dough, but last year, after all the 'no knead bread' craziness, I bought this book:
Amazon.com: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking: Jeff Hertzberg, Zoe Francois: Books

Absolutely amazing recipes, and the best (hmm, or worst??) part is you make a huge batch of dough that can sit in the fridge for 2 weeks, and you just pull out a hunk every night to make a loaf. The semolina has not been kind to my waistline!!!

Wow, crusty bread. That's probably about the only food I miss from metro NY--crust Italian bread. The ones in the store are too soft.

The BEST crusty bread I've had in years, but only on the day it was baked, of course:

Red Hen Baking Company - Organic, hearth-baked, artisan breads from Middlesex, Vermont

We have made our own bread for years. Wore out two pans on the old cheapie bread maker and so invested in the Zojirushi bread maker sold by King Arthur. Got a deal on it, still a bit pricey, but worth it... and it is the best thing since... well you know !!
