I know, I know. It is zero out there. But I am dreaming of Spring. I put in blueberries last Spring and would love to have any first hand advice or tips. They are well-mulched with pine needles and peat moss. Picked most of the blossoms off as directed and hope it helped the plants become stronger. We have 8 plants including Patriot, Northland and Bluecrop.

We grow bluberries as well and have many of the same varieties. We did the same with the type of mulch and the peat. The plants did well, but they didn't get as big as we hoped the first few years. Once we started to fertilize with an acid specific fertilizer the bushes took off. They are very hardy and usually don't need winter protection(depending on where you live). All they need is pruning of dead wood once they are established and fertilizer. Don't fertilize to late in the season or you will get to much new tender growth that will get killed off once it gets cold. The other thing is to leave to fruit on until it is ripe or the fruit will be not as sweet and sour. Just go out and do a taste test. Our kids love this chore. If you have issues with birds or want to avoid issues with birds get some bird netting to cover the bushes.

We can't wait for spring and summer as well. How can cold weather and snow ever beat fresh berries, fresh fruit and fresh veggies. Never.

Wow, I can't wait till spring to see if our local farm stand carries blueberries!

I would love to own a house again someday and have a few fruit bushes & trees.

Vermont blueberries are the best. They seem to be as big as strawberries! Love 'em.

I agree! Fresh Vermont blueberries are my favorite fruit. We picked pounds and pounds and froze what we couldn't stuff into ourselves. Not nearly as good defrosted but a rush nonetheless.

I have lots of blueberry jam around here...and canned blueberries I use for cooking/etc.

Wild blueberries are my favorite (got to beat the critters to them of course), but the non-wild ones can be pretty good too...

Maine kicks our butts when it comes to blueberries. But then again, ours are pretty darn good too.
