Chicago firm acquires city cracker biz: Rutland Herald Online

People in many states enjoy these oyster crackers. But how many know they're made right here in Rutland? (How many of them have even heard of Rutland? )

For now. These investment groups are such that the company may be sold off next year or a few years from now perhaps...

Regardless of their intentions as a matter of PR you will almost always see 'we intend to keep the company in Pleasantville' after a purchase. Just the way it is.

Still in Rutland, according to their website. I think a company, even a big multinational, would have to be really stupid to give up the "Made in Vermont" label, just to save a little bit in manufacturing costs. Not sure if everyone in Vermont realizes the power of the "Made in Vermont" label in the rest of the country - it's like marketing gold.

(BTW, until just now I thought the crackers were made in Westminster, VT! Turns out they were originally made in, and named for, Westminster, Mass., and only moved to Rutland when the original Mass. factory was sold to Pillsbury in 1982.)

I was surprised too when I realized they were made in Rutland rather than Westminster.

Sadly, the average person in the US probably couldn't find Vermont on a map.
