Okay....not infested by all means, but think I found one...cause it fit the description....wings, and an orange body that I had to strain to see, because it was the bottom part of the fly..but definately orange and not something I have seen before.

Maybe it should be brought to the attention of the local etymologist or Fish and Wildlife warden. It could be the start of some kind of infestation of flies not indigenous to Vermont. They could be of harm to other wildlife, plants, insects, etc.

I'd like to ID the things before considering that. It may well be just a mutation. There's areas in North America where locally there are only black squirrels, among other things, because a mutation took hold there. Bizarre but nothing bad. Maybe someone can catch one so it can be looked at better?

I will try on Sunday when it is sunny and warm. It should be quite easy since there are so many. I almost took a picture initially, but thought that would be totally gross to post a pic with dog poop in it.

I'm dying to see a photo of what these look like. Come on, someone post one! Poop or no poop!

Not too thrilled with these.....was exposing the sills of a barn(in the midst of 3' of sheep poop) and actually swallowed one!!!! They look more like bees and there were gazillions of them! I still feel sick but I think it's payback for laughing at that news anchor in Lousianna that swallowed a bug!
