Thats what I thought as well. Was certain that we have a lot of PC gamers here from all the previous posts who would chime in.
I do not consider myself a "PC gamer", but I LOVE Skyrim and wanted to put together a system to run it well and to take advantage of all the mods available. Also was tired of all the teen gamers on Xbox live and thought that "Okay, if I play on Steam, there will be more mature gamers there".
Sadly the teens are still rampant on steam, they are everywhere.
As for my system I cheated when I got this computer, bought a stock Acer M3300 and shoved a new vid card, GTX 560 Ti, and power supply into it the following year. It does well enough, it is starting to show its age though.
Core i5 2500K stock Intel CPU cooler.
Asus Z97 Motherboard
8GB DDR3 Ram
EVGA GTX 970 SC
CoolerMaster 750M Power supply
1TB WD Hard Drive
Antec 300 Computer Case
4 120MM Blue LED fans to cool.
I built my current PC 4 or so years ago, back then it was top of the line Now ... not so much. Especially since in the mean time the ssd and graphics card died.. but at least the latter was for the best, I exchanged that clunky power eating monster that was gtx 580 with a low-mid tier card recently and it performs reasonably well. I can play anything, though games like Witcher 3 force me to compromise either on resolution or details.
Anyway, from what I remember
Some Asus motherboard
i7 2600 @3.4 ghz cpu
gtx 660 2gb
8 gigs ddr3 ram
1 tb HD
A big case full of very quiet 120mm fans (well, 3 out of 5 are plugged in since I ran out of power cables And don't really need them anymore, gtx 580 worked in 70+ degrees Celsius just idling and could get to 90+ under stress... the fans were necessary).
Also, a very old wired 10$ MS keyboard - it's indestructible and even has all but one letters on the keys after all the years, which is odd as all my other keyboards were usually 70% letter and digit free after a year or so of use.. hell, I recently copied so hard, I made a hole in the C key... really
Unfortunately my top of the line Logitech G9 gaming mouse also died.. so I'm using a 15$ A4 tech "bloody" gaming mouse and to be perfectly honest, the difference is so small I seriously consider spending 100+$ on a gaming mouse again (and as I just realized, the G9 now costs 300$ on Amazon.. I paid around 100$ for it..)
Anyway, with a setup like this I can play most new games in full hd on High, only the most demanding titles like the mentioned Witcher force me to compromise a bit... I should be able to use it for gaming quite comfortably for a year or so more and after that.. well, I think I'll have to build a completely new PC.
Yac.
Games are fun..... EARLY 80s GAMES are what I love!!
I'm in to fighting games from the 90's which is why I'm considering building a gaming PC. I've noticed that MAME emulations of some of my favorites like Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Killer Instinct 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 are almost arcade perfect.
Mine is very similar to that. I've just recently doubled up on the Nvidia GeForce 970 GTX cards just for the hell of it, and because I want to eventually get my rig 4k worthy. I have two Western Digital 2TB hard-drives, and one WD 500gb hard-drive. Why so much? I do a LOT of gaming!
The main differences-
Cooling: I don't quite remember. It's certainly not water cooled.
Mouse: Logitech G-(something I can't quite remember)
Keyboard: Just a basic black keyboard.
Sound system: Logitech Z506
Case: Cooler Master HAF-X
I7-3770K, Gigabyte Z97-UD3H, 256GB Crucial SSD, 32GB of Corsair RAM, and a 560ti I had left over from a previous build. I might replace the GPU soon but the machine does everything I need otherwise.
I thought I remembered this being a post in here. Gotta revive it for a few, just built a new rig.
Gigabyte 990FX Gaming mobo
AMD Black Edition FX-8350 8 core Vishera 4.0 GHz processor
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 960 OC Gaming graphics card
16 GB (2x8GB) G.SKill Aegis RAM
Rosewill Star Predator Gaming Case
Thermaltake Smart Series 700watt PSU
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU heatsink/fan
Not a super system, still a budget gaming rig at a price of $834 for the tower, but better than what I had by a long shot. Apologies for the low quality photo, it's my old webcam.
