I think another factor is that many of the games made during the NES era were arcade ports or at least arcade-inspired. Arcade games were naturally designed to provide short gaming experiences and one of the common ways to ensure this was by quickly ramping up the game’s difficulty. Thus, Nintendo hard.
My appreciation for retro games has grown recently. Some of it is nostalgia but I think some of it also has to do with my grievances with modern games. Nowadays games seem to all be massive time sinks with loot boxes and DLCs and it provides me a breath of fresh air to play a quick game of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Castlevania or Tetris.
Still to this day it irks me I never could pass the 1st Castlevania.
Finally, after 32 years, I've beaten the original Castlevania.
I found the game was actually available in the PS store & thought of this post. The game's still ridiculously hard with little room for error in my opinion.
No dude it's not hard but it just needs more time to clear their levels because you have to be conscious about time. I have played the whole game and I have Cleared all levels within 1 month.
