Hi folks,

I'm a print journalist moving into the realm of videography. I'll be doing some docu-style interviews to splice into short documentary footage.

I have a Canon Vixia (VIXIA HF R42 | High Definition<br> Camcorders | Camcorders) that has a single 3.5mm input jack. I've picked up an Audio Technica Lav mic (the wired version of this: Audio-Technica Audio-Technica System 8 VHF Wireless Lavalier System - ATW801-L - Long & McQuade Musical Instruments) with the appropriate cable to get it into the camera.

Now my question: I have one interview which will be two subjects. Am I best to pick up a second lav mic and a 3.5mm split (two to one); a single multi-directional table mic; or some other unknown choice? I'll be travelling extensively with this gear so small + light weight is preferred.

Thanks!!!

-M

I have a Vixia F200 and bought a cheap shotgun mike for about $55 and I am real tickled with it.

I think it is one of the Audio Technica units. Sorry, my stuff is at the office, and I cannot recall the model numbers..

If your Vixia has the proprietary Canon mini-hot shoe, it is a small matter to grind down the shoe on the mike so it slips in.
You may want to pick something with more heft, but that is a small unit and should travel easily. I also think it would work well for voice in controlled interview settings. Not in a loud crowded room.
