I have a ton of video from recent trips on my new Canon G7x Mark II videocamera I want to start editing. I used the GoPro Splice phone app editor for one of the videos which was fine for the type of video I was editing (all I needed to do was add in a few photos at the end of the video to finalize it).
However, the majority of the clips I have now need to be "spliced together" with small portions of certain clips edited out, etc.
I actually do not own a personal laptop so unless anyone can recommend a different phone app that would be good for this (so far I'm not seeing how I can accomplish this without spending way too much time in the GoPro Splice app), I think it's time for a new laptop that would allow me the capability to edit videos. (I haven't decided on the video editing software I will be purchasing yet.)
Again, I'm a non techie so I would basically like input on the specs I should look into when purchasing a new laptop for video editing purposes. I really would prefer to stay under $1000 fyi.
I have been doing video on and off for 30+ years. Your Canon G7x should work well.
There is a lot of video editing software which is available. I used Sony Vegas Professional for 10+ years, until it was sold. Tried a few others, several times, the last one being Corel. Pretty much have quit editing for awhile. Am considering trying GIMP which is free, https://www.gimp.org/
I would keep all my original (unedited) videos forever...

I want to point out that I would like to achieve a higher quality in my videos than what I am currently getting. Don't me wrong; I am loving my new Canon. However, in using the Splice app (on my phone), there is obviously only so much I can do.
Here is the most recent video I put together using the Splice app and footage from the Canon: https://youtu.be/3X59Q9w9n0k
And for comparison, here is someone else's video that has the exact type of "crispness/clearness" that I want to achieve: https://youtu.be/zlWvjpG1gHk
I am assuming the Tokyo video quality is achieved by the editing software that was used? You can see a big difference in my video versus hers (we used the same exact videocamera by the way and I also shot in 1080p/60fps like she did).

Your video looked pretty good.
The intro. about 27 seconds was rock solid with no jitters etc. Zooming in as you recorded may have added to it. But that is subjective.
Your other scenes were very good.
Trying other editors may help. But I have only used desktop computers for editing. Sorry, just no experience on other systems.
I noticed "the Tokyo video" aspect ratio is the same (1280 x 720) but there are horizontal bars on the top and bottom, and the stats say 24 fps (yours are 30 fps). That could make a difference...
