I have heard in a few other threads about backroads around Fredericksburg to avoid 95. I've figured out a few in Spotsylvania county but it appears on maps that North of the river you must use 95 or Rt1 (through Falmouth) to get to points South of the river.
Anyone know another way?

The fastest Alternative would be to get off at Rte 630 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford, cross Rte 1 and stay on 630 then make right on Andrew Chapel Rd (Rte 629) follow that, go under the train tracks and take a right onto Brooke Rd (Rte 608) the follow that a ways until you get to Deacon road and then either cross at the Chatham Bridge or the Bridge to nowhere....(Rte 3)

There are plenty of other ways to get to those two bridges just goto Google maps and look...

Another would be get off at exit 136, go south on right 1 then turn left at the light onto Layhill Road (where the fast mart and stuff is on the left coming south) then turn right onto Forbes St, follow that and take a left onto Harrell and take that to Deacon Rd......

like I said several ways to do it....

Or, if you're in Western Stafford, you can cross at Kelly's Ford... but that option is rarely worth the time. (It's a pretty drive though)

Most of the "shortcuts" will be MUCH longer, mileagewise....and there's only so many ways to cross the river!
You could go thru downtown and cross via Chatham bridge!
