Our family, with four elementary age kids are staying at Greensprings July 8 - 15th. Any advice on our stay there? We are on a tight budget and appreciate tips on affordable restaurants, activities, etc. Also, want to do the beach thing nearby and hope to find a clean, family friendly beach under one hour drive. Thanks!

for a close beach try Yorktown - on the York River, nice, clean, small, easy access and parking. Also a few areas along the Colonial parkway - much smaller and the waters calmer, for just a few hours or a picnic between activities this can be fun and a perfect stop. The closest ocean beach is Va beach - at least an hour depending on traffic. Yorktown is wonderful, may suit you perfectly.

James City County parks & recreation are excellent - many activities free or inexpensive. You will be near a few of the locations - especially Chcikahominy Riverfront - you can rent 2 jon boats for an hour for not much $$.
Also Kidsburg - playground, tennis courts, basketball pick-up games (can be hard to get in and the players are good for b-ball). Welcome to James City County: Working in Partnership with all Citizens

Also York River State park offers great outdoor possibilities.

Outdoor concerts at night- check for excat dates and who is playing: Wednesdat @ merchant's Square; Friday at Yorlktown Beach; Chickahominy Riverfront.

The outdoor areas (hopefully the temp and humidity will cooperate) are wonderful and perfect for a family on a tight budget.
