Hello All:

My wife and I have been traveling down Rt301 to Rt 17 to get to NewportNews Va and we always pass through this little town. We are interested in moving there or in the vicinity. Does anyone have the scoop on this area other than what I have been reading off of City Data.Com. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks

I grew up in Warsaw, which was right across the river from Tappahannock, so I spent a lot of time there. Personally, I love the area. It is very small-town, where everyone knows everyone else, and knows everyone else's business as well! Most of the people in the Northern Neck/ Tappahannock area are lower and middle class, and lots of farming families that have lived there for generations. If you are looking for nightlife or culture, it is not a good place to live (Tappahannock just recently got a small movie theater, and it is the only one in the area - there is one community theater based between Warsaw and Callao though). However, it is wonderful if you are looking to just relax on the river, maybe do some boating and fishing. I don't know if you have kids, but the schools are decent. I went to Richmond County schools, which were considered the best public schools in the area. Being rural, these schools are also relatively small (my graduating class was only about 70), and I never encountered a lot of the drug and violence problems that occur in larger cities and suburbia. The people are very friendly and welcoming.
Please let me know if you have any specific questions and I will do my best to supply any information that I can!

Hi LaurieW,
I am considering a move to the Tappahannock area for a job a the hospital there. Do you have any information about the hospital? I saw on the city-data info. that crime rate in Tappahannock is rather high for the population, any idea why? I looked around the area with a realtor and think that housing is expensive there. Is Warsaw more reasonable?
I will greatly appreciate any information you can share with me.
