Attached is a link to an online petition to repeal the outrageous VA traffic fines, which for failure to use a turn signal carry a civil penalty of 3,000 dollars.
The bills sponsor is a partner in a law firm that specializes in traffic cases thereby benefitting from the increase revenue.
Thanks.

CapitolWiz 6.0 Demo - Your Org Name Here

This is a useful tool to find your local/state/federal local officials and send them an email, or even compose a letter for snail mail. Don't let them off the hook, let the legislators know that this type of thing is remembered election time.

So I take it you've never done so much as switched lanes without a turn signal? That's included in the list of fines.

The bigger issue with this is the fact that VA drivers are the ones paying while out of state drivers can and will continue to break the laws knowing they cannot be fined the same way. I agree that following the law is the way to go, but the reality is, I dont' think the new laws will stand up to a court challenge. This law was snuck through and almost made effective without anyone knowing. I'm one of the first to say obey the laws and accept responsiblity, but the reality is, only VA driver's pay for these. I personally haven't been pulled over in 25 years, so no fear that I'm at high risk, but I think this was a sneaky, underhanded bill that didn't get the review needed. I personally think this will not stand.

Yes, this is clearly governmental corruption. I had already signed, I can't sign again.

Yes. The first person in the Roanoke area was busted for his 5th DWI...
He's complaining that the fines are unfair.

I'm glad the petition has so many signatures. Normally I don't pay them much mind but clearly we're smart enough to realize when we're being screwed by our elected officials. One can say 'abide by the traffic laws' and that's fine, but there are many instances in which a person simply lapses in attention and ends up going a little faster than they should. Now such lapses in attention are going to cost you, big-time. The state should at least pretend to play fair and allow us to use radar detectors, since now the state tax collectors... I mean police officers, will be out in force to nail everyone they can.

I sure hope this travesty is repealed, but I'm on my way out of the People's Republic of Virginia anyway, so a year from now it will no longer be my problem.
