I am more focused on getting my career established since they are laying off hundreds of teachers around my hometown, but I would prefer an area where it is more young professionals and there is some sort of night life. Does anyone know of any cities/school districts that need teachers and are hiring? And any good locations in VA to live in? Thanks so much for the help!
Here is a thread from the Northern Virginia section that somewhat addresses your question:

DO NOT TEACH IN RICHMOND IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO DEAL WITH INNER-CITY YOUTH AGAIN! I went to Chesterfield Public Schools [right outside of RIC] & lots of my friends went to Richmond Public Schools. They're a JOKE. Their school board doesn't seem to care about them. My cousin was a teacher in Richmond Public Schools...she quit her first year because of how bad it was. She quit teaching completely. That's how bad it was. You may get a different experience or opinion but I'm just telling you what I know. Try these districts out.

Welcome to Powhatan County, Virginia - Powhatan County
Chesterfield County Public Schools- Chesterfield County
Home- Amelia County
Henrico County Public Schools ::- Henrico County
Hanover County Public Schools, Virginia- Hanover County

Hope this helps! God Bless.
