Ok, following your posting rules

Where you are working: I'm in human services, Hubby does HVAC.

-How much you are willing to spend on housing: $150K

-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate: 1/2 hour to hour

-If you have kids: Private school or public school? Yes!!! 4 and 5 year old. Public school and this is VERY important to us!!!

-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: We are looking for small town feeling. LOVE to be outside, love to garden, hike, ride our tractor, swim.
-Community amenities important to you: We are laid back people with high work ethics. We are very involved parents and really enjoy our community. Some things I love about our current town is.. The YMCA, the lake.., our many parks, historic downtown.

WIth all that being said.
seems like the roanoke area is nice? really have NO clue though. Help would be MUCH appreciated

You'll find plenty of lifestyle options throughout the state. Northern Va may be too cost prohibitive to find the lifestyle you want. Check out jobs on line and let that be the guide where you settle. You may love metro Richmond but if the jobs ain't there then it wont work for you.

Oh yea were expecting Snow Sunday, gotta love it..

Hey there! I think the Richmond area would be great for ya'll. Some of these are larger towns, combined with some smaller towns...All within an hour [usually less] to Richmond. Richmond will open up more opportunities to ya'll as well as jobs within whatever town you choose. DO NOT LIVE IN RICHMOND! Richmond isn't necessarily the best area for kids & the school system is a joke. My cousin was a teacher there...Also ya'll will be no more than 3 hours to DC, 2 hours to the mountains as well as the beach. Hope this helps!

I'll plug my area as places you should investigate. Staunton/Waynesboro area. Harrisonburg. And Charlottesville. All beautiful areas along the Blue Ridge mountains with plenty of recreational opportunities and even some cultural amenities and a lot of history. Good luck!
