No kidding, and ironic since at least two former Hackensaw Boys live in Lynchburg! Up around NoVA the Birchmere used to book Americana acts (I'm pretty sure the last song on Americana Motel--one of my favorite compilations--was recorded there. Then again that was [GASP] 11 years ago). If you're up there, also look at The State Theater in Falls Church.
For Central VA, several vineyards have Americana-ish acts through the summer (speaking of Hackensaw Boys, Veritas has them at the next Starry Nights). But there isn't a place I'd say ALWAYS has that. I don't think they are having the Hill City Roots festival this year and are instead working to do something after the Get Downtown festival (
https://www.facebook.com/events/471490779529285/ for the locations/performers). Some of those same venues (plus the Ellington and Rivermont Pizza) have Americana, Bluegrass and Folk, outside of that night, too. Again, not regularly: I have to preview the band before deciding to go.
