I am currently living in Maine. This past winter I decided that I have had enough of Maine winters. After months of searching, I have decided to move to Virginia in 2008. Now I am searching for a town in Virginia to move to. I don't want to live in a bigger city like Richmond, but I do want to be near one and Chester caught my eye on the map. Could someone give me some info on Chester ... such as rent rates (for a 3 bedroom) and maybe the name of the local newspaper that would have the classifieds for apt. rentals and jobs. I looked online, but there are so many papers listed ... I want to make sure I am looking at the paper that will give me the most up to date info. Any info would be very helpful ... thanks.

Default Woderful Va town

Hi there

If you are considering moving to Va from Maine
please make sure you go to Charlottesville Va

I lived there for 30 years. Its a town and country place with
lots of great music, food, mountains, clean rivers
and lots to do
The university is all preppy and the medical center if full of egos and good health care
If you have a hobby such as hiking,horses,tennis,golf,music,canoeing/kayaking, ect ect you will love it there

Use the Richmond Times-Dispatch for looking at rents in Chester.

Richmond's Entertainment, News, and Community Resource - inRich.com is the website.

Stay away from Chester!!! Anywhere south of the james river is going to be a pain. I lived in Chester for three months when I moved From WV without knowing the area, Just found an apt. with resonable rent and moved in.....BIG MISTAKE!!! I just paid the $1800 fee for breaking the lease and got the *^#% out of there. Look on the west side of Richmond or the East side. I live on the east side, 15 min commute to work downtown, Nice quiet subdivision near the airport, easy access to I-64 and I-295, lots of stuff around to take up spare time. Also consider Fredricksburg, VA VERY nice place.

So, what's so bad about Chester?

One word, CRIME! The apartment complex I moved into, Not a slum either, Prolly one of the nicer places around, Rent was $750 amonth, Cops were there EVERY NIGHT, One building was set on fire by arsonists, A block away a guy killed his wife and then baracaded himself in the house, My car was broken into 3 times, Vandalized once and a friend of mine was shot at while stopped at a red light.....Need I say more? Maybe they just did not the fact that I was from WV, Still had WV plates on the car, But JEEESSUUUSSS!!! And the commute to work was Hell, with no traffic it would take 30-35 min to get from Chester to Richmond, But with everyone else on the road, 1 hour was not unusual and if there was an accident...add 2 hours to that. I'm very happy on the east end.

Wow... you must be one unlucky person! Along Rt. 1 is kinda sketchy, but to the west of that like near Chester Village and the Chester Village Green development definitely don't fit the description you describe.

chester is a very nice place to live, the area rail rider has described seems more like south richmond rather than chester, i dont live in chester but wouldnt hesitate living there for one minute!
