Hi, my husband and I are looking for homes in Burke, Bristow & Manassas. We are looking for Townhouses and possible new construction. Our top priorities are good school district, easy commute into DC and low crime rate.
Our budget is in the 350,000 price range.
Side note: We did also look into Maryland for homes, but did not see anything we liked.

Homes for Sale and Rent in DC, Maryland, Virginia | HomesDatabase.com is connected to the local mls system. They recently 'updated' it and I find it more cumbersome to use, but you will find all the active RE listings there.
Of the three areas you mention, Burke puts you closest to DC. It also has plenty of (relatively) affordable housing, a middle-class-family-suburbia crime rate, and good schools.
If you post in the Northern Va forum, you'll get more responses.
