I know Virginia is very good on the coast, however I want to compare the more hilly\mountainous region of Virginia to Indiana and Kentucky and Tennessee. so tell me why and where in Virginia to relocate

Why Virginia? Because you are nearer the coast, even in the hilly areas? Also, history, if you are any history buff, eary American, Civil War, etc. it is here.

Virginia is cool. Those other places aren't.

I agree, that Virginia has more interesting historical sights. Is employment a consideration for you, if so, in which professional field? Or are you retired? Are you single or will you be bringing a family? What size community do you prefer? Is accessibility to cities or higher education important to you?

I do not smoke. I do not like being around tobacco smoke. Tennessee has been far behind Virginia in eliminating smoke in public places. When I visited Gatlingburg in 2003, one could not walk down the street smoke-free. I realize that in 2007, Tennessee finally enacted a non-smokers protection act.

In 2003, while in Tennessee, there was a newspaper article discussing graduation rates. Virginia's was substantially higher than Tennessee's rate. It makes a difference. I will leave it at that. In 2003, I was very glad to return to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia has better (in my opinion) state colleges and universities. How can TN beat UVA or William & Mary? There are many more state colleges & universities.

TN may have no income tax, but it's sales tax is eye popping.

If you smoke, I guess TN beats VA. And if you have no soon-to-be college age kids, state colleges may not matter.

My family is originally from TN. It is a beautiful state. But so is Virginia!
If you are considering these states as possible places to move, good luck!

Well, that's not true at all. Virginia is certainly more friendly to smokers.

Virginia has the 2nd lowest cigarette tax in the country.

Tenn and Indy seem to have more extreme weather--tornados, extreme thunderstorms, snowstorms etc. The mountains seem to breakdown many of the storms and dump them in West Virginia. Also better access to coast and northeast US are nice.
