Default Winchester Growth

Winchester is being engulfed by the Washington DC metro area. I visited about a year ago and noticed lots of energy there with downtown improvements, commuters that actually work in DC, etc. Its not the sleepy
"Apple Blossom Festival" place it once was. Although its changing its still a very nice place to visit! I believe there are plans for a rail link or maybe there is one now to downtown DC. I-81 is a mess throughout VA. It needs a lot of work but our state refuses to improve it for some nutty reason. Oh well, for now they are all republicans but I hope that will change very soon!!

Yup, with the housing boom people were forced to flee further and further from the DC area to find affordable housing... It'll be interesting to see what happens to home prices around Winchester, Front Royal, Stephens City and Strasburg as I have a feeling that they overbuilt BIG time. There's a lot of cleared land waiting for builders to begin to build, but nothing's happening.

Uh, word is that Winchester development along I-81 is grinding or has ground to a halt. I've got relatives in Winchester, I was driving through around early summer and there were literally new 300 acre subdivisions in Winchester that were abandoned with heavy equipment sitting that I was told had been sitting there for 9 months.

Every 'burb in Winchester has foreclosed homes being resold by banks, or nervous owners with houses on the market that have been getting very little interest after 9-12 months on the market. The upscale homes are still being developed to some extent, but even those are having to reduce prices.

Obviously I didn't see the whole picture when I was there but I didn't see anything that resembled growth while I was there. I saw only contraction.

Sean

Winchester was booming the past few years. We own land in Winchester, and everyone was building homes but it has lessened quite a bit lately.

It's the blast zone effect.

FBI, FEMA they need to move over 50 miles outside of
DC.

Tremendous growth to come from this. Local speculators already know this and are hawking their commercial property along 81 in anticipation.

Read something in the Washington Post about a year and a half ago about this.... They did say that many government offices could get relocated out this way...
