McDonnell: Time to discuss arming school officials - Roanoke.com

Yes, Governor..We need more strict control over our school kids! If we see any of these kids fall out of line
then just allow our school officials the opportunity to take charge! Folks, you guys elected this dude as our
Governor....now about those vaginal probes?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I haven't read the article but arming CERTAIN folks may not be a bad idea. There are many teachers and administrators out there that have no business touching a gun but some would easily be more than qualified.

I just read part of the article and this stands out. I agree it might be time for a discussion.

"not just a police officer but other school officials who were trained and chose to have a weapon, certainly there would have been an opportunity to stop aggressors coming into the schools. So I think that’s a reasonable discussion that ought to be had.”

What would you suggest someone do if there was a person who comes into the building with a knife? Are guns the only things that kill people? Would gun control stop them from getting in the hands of the wrong people? How has that worked for drugs?

I don't see a problem.

As long as those who carry the weapon are qualified to carry one, I don't see any actual downside to this.

What happens when the teacher or assistant that is armed happens to "snap" and have a "mental breakdown", and then starts shooting, then what? Gov. McDonnell has every right to bring it up and discuss it, but I think it's a dumb idea along with a lot of his other dumb ideas. We are not the wild wild west.

In Thailand, teachers must go heavily armed to breakfast - Taipei Times The Governor is not the first to think of this. "The military firing range is crowded with teachers, in shifts of 50, trying out their new pistols, an essential new accessory".......They even gave the teachers low interest government loans to pay for their guns. They also have police scanners in the classroom.

Israel does this, also.

Virginia is already a strong pro-gun state. Don't you think that a majority of the states citizens already own guns?

McDonnell signs repeal of Virginia's one-gun-a-month law - Washington Times

Quote:
"I think Virginians deserve effective laws, and one handgun a month has been overtaken by technology and improved background checks," he said. "Criminals don't go into gun stores, stand there in the bright light, hand over their driver's license and stand there and wait for the vendor to see if they have a criminal record."
He added: "If you really want to get after gun crime, you get after people who use guns illegally. You don't punish law-abiding citizens."

Well, we already (FCPS) have armed officers in schools. What's the big deal?
