We lived in Lynchburg for 3 years. I think you need a job prior to moving there or be financially independent or retired. While I was there I was going to school for education, and substitute teaching because I couldn't get any job I really liked. On the other hand, the city schools are outstanding because there were a lot of intelligent people due to the approximately 5 colleges in the area. My experience with the schools is they really care about the kids. It is generally a conservative town, but there are liberals if you look for them, near Randolph College (formerly Randolph-Macon Women's College). I found the culture okay. Here, there's more concerts, etc., but they are also very expensive and you can't always get tickets. So what's the advantage? My kid could see Hannah Montana, but I couldn't get through on the line to order the tickets, so I can't get them unless I pay a scalper $200.00 a ticket. In Lynchburg, there are several cities within driving distance to see cultural events. If you're in a big city, you're also probably driving 2 hours to see a concert. Lynchburg had one opera while I was there, and it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great either. On the other hand, out of five operas in Miami, Florida, maybe two or three were any good.

Real american guys can be true to themselfs and does not have to be rediculed by French influenced blue bloods.

Hahaha, no joke -- this guy is EXACTLY what you will deal with if you move to Lynchburg. And an unwelcoming community, unless you go to Liberty University or Jerry Falwell's church (and even that doesn't ensure you will be welcome). And it isn't the REAL Virginia (although there are some communities that have the same mind-set).

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LOOK ELSEWHERE IN VIRGINIA. Lynchburg will be a big disappointment if you want anything besides clueless, snobby, narrow-minded rednecks (oh, I don't mean to be rude).
