So wife and I had not really planned to move to Va but plans to move to Tn were kind of dashed or at least had a dent put in them over her CNA license not being able to transferred to Tn etc. Anyways. We want to stay in the Mountains/Southern part of the state. Looking for family/pet friendly area with lots to do. Roanoke is a bit too large but I was curious about Bristol,Christiansburg,Blacksburg,Radford etc...those areas. How is employment? How are the schools? Any areas we should stay away from? The farthest I have been in Va is Wytheville so any help is appreciated.Any other areas we should consider?

You may want to read through threads on the Roanoke forum. I think you will find answers to some of your questions there.

Good luck.

If your wife is open to working wherever, I'd just rent a place somewhere central for the time being, put in applications everywhere, and go with whoever bites first. Abingdon seems to have a higher reputation for schools than the other areas, for what it's worth, and there's probably more to do there than in most of the other towns.

You could look in the Allegheny highlands of VA, I don't know if there are many jobs available there but it is a beautiful area of VA.

Blacksburg/Christiansburg is a growing area and is one of the top metros for job growth.

Roanoke is the biggest healthcare center in the area, further west your opportunities will diminish accordingly.

Blacksburg is a college town, Christiansburg and Radford are sleepier places. All have hospitals, but Roanoke has more and many nursing homes and such for a CNA to find work.

Good luck.
