I would like to start visiting south western Virginia this summer. Maybe even relocate but I have been reading about high crime rates. Even read that Galax has gangs. Is all this true or just an attempt to keep outsiders out? Many thanks to all who respond.

Not much news here on Galax gangs. That town is close to Winston Salem NC so I wouldn't be surprised.

Um, Galax is 65 miles from Winston-Salem. I'd hardly consider that close.
